Seasonal Blooming
The Gardens are in a constant state of flux: week after week, their appearance gradually shifts in a spectacular pageant of colours that carries one season right into the next.
A sea of tulips
A Sea of Tulips
A sea of thousands upon thousands of tulips rings in spring. In April, camellias and rhododendrons burst into bloom, and Japanese cherry blossoms wash Forests of the World in colour. In May, peonies and roses unfold their buds and poppies try to attract attention, making a red-speckled carpet of barley. In summer, the barley fields transform themselves into a sea of shining sunflowers. The lavender below the castle and the Mediterranean shrubs give off fragrances that transport you south. In July, water lily blossoms and exotic lotuses bring the Water Lily Pond into its finest season.
As the days get cooler, the asters and fall camellias come into bloom and harvest time is just around the corner: figs, pomegranates and olives – a Southern bounty – are luscious and ready to eat in the Sun Gardens while grapes, apples and chestnuts are ripe and juicy in Landscapes of South Tyrol. Forest of the World is ablaze with kaleidoscopic fall colours: the brilliant red of the maple trees and Indian summer in the North American deciduous forest are especially spectacular.
