Trauttmansdorff at a Glance
The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are located just outside of Merano (Meran) in the formerly Austrian province of Südtirol or South Tyrol – called Alto Adige in Italian. The inspiring and vibrant Gardens cover an area of just twelve hectares yet are the most popular tourist attraction in South Tyrol. They comprise more than eighty garden worlds featuring plants from across the globe. The Four Garden Worlds
The Castle
Enthroned at the centre of the Gardens is Trauttmansdorff Castle: after a turbulent history of both glory and decay, the castle has gained its historical significance through sojourns made there by Empress Elisabeth of Austria.
