Italy's most beautiful Garden 2005
A winning interplay between art and nature: in the third year after the competition’s inception, a panel of five expert judges named The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle “Italy’s Most Beautiful Garden 2005” from a field of 64 gardens from all over Italy. The judges cited the Gardens’ uniqueness as the basis for their reasoning: the harmonious relationship between contemporary art and a multitude of different plant species from varying climatic zones creates an appealing and much admired work of landscape design. The “Italy’s Most Beautiful Garden” competition is run under the auspices of the Briggs & Stratton with the cooperation of the Association of Great Italian Gardens (Grandi Giardini Italiani). Briggs & Stratton is the world’s largest manufacturer of gasoline engines; the company runs annual Most Beautiful Garden competitions in Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Sweden and the United States.
Europe’s number six Garden
For this award, Briggs & Stratton evaluated twenty categories of gardens in Germany, France, Italy, Sweden and the UK in the Briggs & Stratton’s Best Parks competition. The relatively young Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, with its progressive and innovative approach, were given sixth place under the category of Europe’s Most Beautiful Gardens. The awarding of prize was truly remarkable given the fact that Trauttmansdorff was competing against long-established and revered institutions, many with botanical gardens that are hundreds of years old.
