The Sissi Terrace and Sissi’s Throne
In occasion of a imperial celebration was set up a three-metre-long white marble bench with pictures of the imperial couple under an old chestnut tree – the Empress's favourite place.
Imperial Celebration
Baron von Deuster, Trauttmansdorff Castle’s owner from 1897 to 1921, organised an imperial celebration in 1908 to commemorate the Austrian Emperor and Empress’ visit to the castle. He set up a three-metre-long white marble bench with pictures of the imperial couple under an old chestnut tree – the Empress's favourite place.
A greeting from days gone by
The historical bench now sits on the newly designed, stately Sissi Terrace on the southern side of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Ascend the wide, semi-circular, marble-and-slate steps and up to Sissi’s Throne: you will feel as though you are floating in mid-air. From there, against the backdrop of the castle itself, take in spectacular views of fragrant plants from the South and the Water Lily Pond – exactly as the Emperors themselves would have done.
