“Sissi” or “Sisi”?

Controversy abounds over the “correct” spelling of Empress Elisabeth’s famous nickname. Historians prefer “Sisi” or even “Lisi”, which is how the Empress herself wrote and pronounced the name.

The “Sissi” spelling is much more widely recognized, largely due to the international popularity of the celebrated film of the same name featuring Romy Schneider and Karlheinz Böhm. Because of its widespread familiarity, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle team prefers this spelling.
