News from our leafcutter ants - 20.01.16

Our leafcutter ants apparently feel right at home with us, and are preparing for mating flights. It is an absolute rarity for them to grow wings outside of their natural habitat and to prepare for coupling in flight. They can fly to heights of up to 200 meters, where they mate and the young fertilized queen then creates a new colony. We’re curious to see how our colony develops...
