Book presentation "DIE SULDENSTRASSE"
On 18 September 2026, the new book 'DIE SULDENSTRASSE' will be presented at the Touriseum in Merano.
On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Stelvio Pass Road (2025), Franz G. Angerer discovered more than 300 original documents in his family's archive relating to the construction of the Solda Road (1890–1912). Complemented by material from other private archives, the book reconstructs an almost forgotten chapter of South Tyrol's history and serves as a historical study, a work of cultural remembrance, and a tribute to a heritage that continues to resonate to the present day.
About the Author
Franz G. Angerer, born in 1948 in Solda (Sulden), comes from the Angerer family of hoteliers, owners of the former Post Hotel in Solda. He attended primary school in Solda, followed by three years of middle school and five years at the Commercial Technical Institute in Merano, graduating in 1968. After completing his military service with the Alpini, he began his professional career in tourism and trade in Schenna and Bolzano. From 1975 to 2005 he lived in Milan, where he held sales and management positions in various companies, most recently serving as Export Manager for an international engineering company.
He is a member of the Ortler Sammlerverein 1. Weltkrieg (OSV) (Ortler First World War Collectors' Association), formerly sang with the MGV Schlanders men's choir, and is a passionate classic car enthusiast. He is married, has one son, and is the grandfather of two grandchildren.
Since his retirement, he has devoted himself to cataloguing, researching, and archiving his family's extensive collection of documents and historical objects, which had remained largely unnoticed for decades in the old family home in Solda.
