General description

Viola varieties are among the most important spring bedding plants. They are valued for their abundant flowering, compact growth, and wide range of colours. The palette spans from white, yellow, orange, and red to blue and violet, often in bicolour forms. Violas are cold-tolerant and begin flowering reliably at low temperatures, making them essential for early seasonal displays. Their dense branching allows them to quickly form closed, uniform plantings, making them especially suitable for large-scale bedding with a consistent structure.

Care

Violas prefer sunny to partially shaded positions and evenly moist soil. They are robust and free-flowering. Regular removal of spent blooms helps maintain a neat appearance and encourages continued flowering. Waterlogging should be avoided.

Special features & use in the home garden

In private gardens, violas are ideal for beds, containers, and seasonal displays. They provide early colour and are easy to maintain. Well suited for creating quick and effective spring accents.

In Trauttmansdorff

The cascate of  violas is a  designed landscape feature. Densely planted violas form continuous цвет surfaces that follow the contours of the slope. At Trauttmansdorff, it represents one of the earliest and most prominent highlights of the spring season, with an immediate and visually accessible impact.
