General description

The Banks’ rose is one of the earliest roses to bloom, producing a profusion of small, delicate flowers. Unlike many other roses, it is almost thornless, giving it a particularly elegant appearance. At Trauttmansdorff, it marks the beginning of the rose season. This vigorous climbing rose is widely found in parks and gardens around Merano and is locally known as “Meraner Rösl”.

Care

Banks’ rose prefers warm, sunny locations and well-drained soil. It is robust and requires little maintenance. Pruning, if needed, should be done immediately after flowering. In colder areas, light winter protection may be beneficial.

Special features & use in the home garden

This rose is ideal for façades, pergolas, and walls. Its vigorous growth allows it to cover large surfaces. Its early flowering makes it especially valuable for gardens aiming to create spring interest. Well suited for those who appreciate classic, low-maintenance roses.

In Trauttmansdorff

The Banks’ rose grows in two particularly prominent locations: it adorns the wall below the castle and covers the entire aviary.
