Founded in 1875, it has served as a base for climbers for 150 years On the occasion of this special anniversary, Karin Ortler, the aunt of the current hut keeper, authored the book titled "The Julius-Payer-Hütte – 150 Years of Alpine Hospitality on the Ortler." The richly illustrated work tells the lively history of the hut through historical photographs, eyewitness accounts, original documents, and press articles. It offers authentic insights into life and work at over 3,000 meters altitude through personal portraits of past generations of hut keepers. Supported by the Touriseum a permanent exhibition has also been created to showcase the 150-year history of the Julius-Payer-Hütte.
