Get to know Heinrich Noë, he wrote several Tyrol travel books.

“Good day, may I join you? Noë is my name, Heinrich Noë, pleased to meet you. Where are you going? Are you already leaving the wonderful village of Gossensass? It’s a truly magical place, one that will attract more and more travellers, you’ll see. It has such a unique variety of attractions that I will probably call it the Chamonix of Tyrol in my book. As a matter of fact I have devoted myself to the thankless profession of travel writer – and I am dedicating my next guide to Gossensass. I now want to make a few notes about the railway line towards Bozen. Would you care to chat a little more with me in the compartment?”

Heinrich August Noë (1835-1896)

  • travel writer from Bavaria
  • with countless descriptions of his travels he contributed to the popularisation of Tyrol in the second half of the 19th century
  • died of a stroke in Bozen in 1896 and was buried there in the Protestant cemetery
