Meet Hermine Tauscher-Geduly, one of the most important female alpinists in the 1870s.

“Oh, hello! Have you been standing here a while? I didn’t notice you at all. I was completely absorbed by the infinite silence and the magnificent view. Look at the giant snow-covered peak of the Ortler gleaming up there, isn’t it magical? And, next to it, shining so gracefully, is the Trafoi ice wall, do you see? That’s why I’m here, because I finally want to conquer it. You don’t think I can? It’s by no means my first tour of the kind. Let me tell you more...”

Hermine Tauscher-Geduly (?-1923)

  •  the first female alpinist from Hungary – one of the major lady alpinists of the 1870s
  • the Ortler group was her preferred area for tours
  • the first woman to climb the Königsspitze peak (1879) and the Trafoi ice wall (1883)
  • she described her tours in numerous reports
