In 2023/24, the Touriseum presented a poster exhibition in the stairwell of Trauttmansdorff Castle about the tourist relaunch of the spa town of Merano after the First World War.
With new infrastructures such as the golf course opened in 1922 and the cable car to Hafling, Merano targeted a younger, sophisticated and international clientele in the 1920s. Active tourists increasingly replaced the ailing spa guests. Thanks to international sporting events and a state-sponsored advertising campaign, ‘Merano’ became a household name throughout Italy.
