Flowers of the Mediterranean– a dream of the south

The sun-kissed southwestern slope of the Gardens, burgeoning with sweetly-scented dwarf shrubs and other native Mediterranean flora, brings to mind the unique vista of southern climes. Cork and holm oaks evoke visions of the classic terrain of the Mediterranean region, and come together with the strawberry tree, the mock privet and the evergreen viburnum to form a landscape reminiscent of the Macchia shrublands.
In Italy's northernmost olive grove, pines, cypresses and age-old cultivated plants including pomegranate, mulberry and fig trees, capers, lavender and citrus trees fill the air with that unmistakeable holiday feeling.

Vineyard tour

South Tyrol is the oldest wine-growing region in the German-speaking world. The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle display the wealth of this rich cultural heritage in the "Landscapes of South Tyrol.” A typical South Tyrolean vineyard cultivated in traditional pergola style with indigenous grape varietals, a walk-in tabernacle with 2,400 year-old South Tyrolean grape seeds and a gold replica of an 8,000 year-old grape seed from Georgia are the highlight of this area of the garden. Trained garden and wine experts will lead you through this area of the garden and offer you an insight into South Tyrol’s 3,000 year-old history of viniculture.
